The first few pieces that went onto the “website rack” were those of Gigi’s Thrift Shop: a pink dress topped with an oversized satin bow, a pretty hefty prom dress in the most gorgeous shade of purple, embellished with diamante crystals and a heavily-sequined sky-blue top.
It came to me right in this moment: 4 girls seated around a long rectangular table, blue sky as the backdrop. It took around a couple more weeks until the entire collection was curated and shipped out to what we call “Baby Warehouse”, and as the weeks went by, the primary sight of the dining table evolved into something slightly more developed. I was hoping to reflect three points across the day: morning, sunset and midnight,
all in one spot: the glorious dining table, a communal spot where people dine, fight, dance, play poker and do art projects.
The potent transition in the time of the day was to reflect the change in the dynamics between the friend group.
I was hoping to have 2 guys and 3 girls represent the funkiest fucking friend group. From bored and hungover in the morning in icy blue fits, to preppy sunsets and cigarettes all over the table midnight of course! But since when do things ever go as planned? The friend group of 5 was quickly downsized to 3, and the backdrops were replaced with curtains and a poly-board.
It was the first time I took up the role of a creative director: start to finish, and the day of the shoot I role played as a makeup artist.
Luckily, I had my kit on me. Everything aside, I am incredibly grateful for the team that brought my vision to life.
One of my best friends and super DP, Editor and Colorist, Mina Ezzat who’s been there for me ever since we met.
There’s also Model and MUA Rita Antoine who not only posed like it was some sort of a dance but also shuffled between 3 makeup looks in no time. I couldn’t have done it or rested for 5 minutes if it weren’t for Gigi, my best friend, who kept me calm, grounded, helped style the models and kept the whole studio organized.
Forever in awe of how sweet and supportive humans are.
